IP Engineer
Full time, Manchester, Salary depending on skills and experience, plus benefits
This IP Engineer role sits within Network Engineering and reports to the Gamma Head of Engineering. This is a vacancy for an experienced IP Engineer (not an entry-level or junior role). Candidates should be area experts in IP / VOIP networks, products and services.
Duties include:
· Provide technical expertise in the requirement specification, configuration and testing of IP / VOIP network elements and network infrastructure
· Provide technical expertise in the design and testing of VOIP products and services
· Manage third parties / equipment vendors to ensure product requirements have been met
· Define IP / VOIP test plans / approaches and execute IP / VOIP test plans
· Assist with definition of success criteria for VOIP alpha / beta product trials
· Assist with the definition of operational support processes / operational handover
· Attend supplier / internal / customer meetings and represent the network engineering department at all levels
· Where necessary, provide IP / VOIP product training, documentation and 3rd level support
· Assist with business processes for provision and support of VOIP services
· Define IP / VOIP monitoring requirements and assist with the development of IP / VOIP network management tools and capabilities
Candidates should be able to display the following skills, knowledge and experience
· Detailed knowledge of core network routers and infrastructure
· Excellent communication and reporting skills
· Supplier management experience
· Technical project management experience
· Technical authoring
· Flexible approach to work and able to work under pressure
· 5+ years in a technical operations or engineering role within a Telco or ISP environment
· Hands-on experience of IP / VOIP network design, implementation and troubleshooting
· Hands on Cisco exposure backed up with a Cisco CCNP / CCDP or CCIE
· Good working knowledge of the following:
· Layer 2 technologies – Ethernet, Frame Relay, HDLC, PPP, etc
· Routing protocols – general IP routing, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IP Multicast, etc
· IOS security - traffic filtering, authentication, authorization, etc
· IOS Management - SNMP, RMON, NTP, etc
· Transport systems - DWDM, SDH, ATM, etc
· xDSL, QoS, DHCP, DNS, ENUM, NAT, POE, etc
