Principal Ecologist - Glasgow ...
We are seeking an ecologist with over 10 years experience to join our client at their head office in Glasgow and head up their ecology team. Our client offers fantastic working conditions along with a competitive salary between 37,000-47,000. Youwill be responsible for designing, managing and delivering a range of projects across the UK, although it is expected that the role will focus primarily on projects in Scotland.
You will be expected to manage individual projects, in order to deliver high-quality ecological consultancy services to budget and to agreed deadlines. He/she will also be involved in costing work and preparing tenders.For development related projects, you will be responsible for consultation, field survey work, reporting, Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), writing Ecology chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reports, habitat and species management planning, and conducting Habitats Regulations Appraisals (HRAs).
You will be expected to support projects out with their core specialisms and offer advice and the benefit of their experience to the wider Ecology Team and the business generally. The Principal Ecologist will be expected to line manage the Glasgow ecologists and review their work.
You will be a professional ecologist with over 10 years experience and preferably have a consultancy background. You will be an excellent communicator with advanced skills in client and regulator liaison and have a track-record of winning and delivering projects. It is essential that candidates have UK and Scottish experience.
You will have a degree or equivalent in ecology or a related subject. An MSc or PhD in an ecological subject is desirable.
You will be a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and preferably a Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist.
Based on the CIEEM Competency Framework, the ideal candidate will be accomplished in most of the following themes:
Habitat/species survey design, planning and fieldwork;
Species identification, handling and evaluation;
Habitat identification and evaluation;
Design and preparation of habitat/species management enhancement
plans or projects;
Outcome monitoring, data management and reporting;
Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) etc.;
Ecological assessment including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal
(PEA), and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA);
Scientific method, design and implementation;
Analysis of data;
Interpretation and evidence-based reporting;
Managing and evaluating projects; and Recruiting and developing people.
We are looking for candidates with a technical specialism in protected species (such as bats), marine ecology or botany, and with considerable experience in completing EcIAs and HRAs. A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role, as is the flexibility to work out with office hours and away from home as necessary.
Advantageous, but non-essential, experience and skills include:
Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW);
Business development and marketing.
