Based: Bromley South (17 minutes from Victoria station.)
The successful candidate will sell advertising space and sponsorship packages across a portfolio of established publications, focusing either on international finance or intellectual property law. You will be required to understand the industries that our titles promote in order to research potential clients, educate them about the benefits of working with us, and ultimately convert them into new business. On that basis, this position is ideally suitable for a fast learner.
As a rapidly expanding company, limited resources are currently preventing us from fully exploiting new business opportunities – which is where you come in. Contact will be made by telephone to senior individuals and decision makers, most of whom will be familiar with the high quality products you will be selling. Initially, this will involve making a lot of calls in order to achieve a minimum of 10 pitches per day. This will eventually establish a strong pipeline from which to work.
You will be a quick thinker, a natural rapport builder and a confident opener. You will posses the ability to get a conversation flowing in order to pick up relevant information and then articulate the unique benefits of our products. The ability to manage your work load effectively is essential as you will be expected to keep proposals moving forward and close the business in a timely manner. You will be expected to do this without constant prompting and reminding, so someone with a self-sufficient work ethic is highly desired.
In a relatively short space of time, 6-12 months, you will be required to research and launch new products and supplements around our existing brands. You will take responsibility for the financial success of these initiatives, and will receive bonuses for profitable launches.
Within 12-24 months, you should be looking to expand your launches with the view to developing a junior sales assistant for which you will receive a commission over-ride.
Previous experience
Experience in financial or legal based advertising sales is an obvious bonus. Ideally, we are looking for at least 2 years high-level B2B outbound telephone selling. The successful applicant will have a proven track record and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills. Strong business acumen is also important as is a proactive and enthusiastic approach to your work.
Career progression
There is no doubt that this role will expand as more opportunities are taken advantage of, new products launched, and new team members recruited. There will be opportunities to travel overseas to client meetings and conferences after a period of approximately 6 months, so client facing skills/experience is a must. In addition, you will have the chance to launch and manage new products, so this role should be considered as a management position in the short term (12-24 months) for the successful candidate.
Earnings potential
£25-30k basic, plus commission and bonuses. The OTE will be £40-50k in your first year. Commission and bonuses are uncapped, so the more you sell the more you will earn.
The type of person we are looking for
This position requires a candidate who is willing and able to hit the ground running. You will need to be confident presenting and conversing with contacts at director level. You will be self-sufficient when it comes to developing new business and researching new sales opportunities, as well as having the ability to identify and convert sales angles within your existing accounts. Strong written English is also essential in order to write accurate and professional proposals. Of paramount importance is having the ambition to succeed and to grow with the company.
A tenacious, confident, pro-active, committed and enthusiastic individual would really excel in this role.
Team structure
You will report directly to the associate publisher, who will be on hand to guide you through the market and leads in the beginning, as well as provide on-going support as required. We have a strong editorial team who support the sales team with ideas to sell around.

The company was established in 2004. Our key aim was to differentiate our publications from others on the market through editorial policy, subscription pricing, and design. Key to our strategy was to ensure that advertising and sponsorship sales were conducted passionately and professionally.
We felt that there were too many publications that fulfilled the most basic needs of readers in different industries, but did not go much beyond that. We knew we could offer more creative publications with interesting editorial concepts and visual impact.
We make our publications available to more readers than our competitors, to ensure that we continuously open up new audiences for our advertising partners and provide better value for money than our competitors. In some cases, we reach up to twice as many individual readers as some of our competitors.
The result is that the company has grown consistently every year since its launch in 2004, including through the financial downturn.
