About The Role

Reporting to the Head of Data, the successful candidate will be part of our database team which is responsible for providing database development, reporting development and supporting production systems. You will work with other DBAs, SQL developers and BI developers. Your primary area will be the ongoing development and support of JustGiving's internal and external data requirements. You will sometimes work independently but will also work closely with the other teams. Tasks will vary, but you will often be called on to help model new database objects, add new fields to existing objects, guide application developers in writing optimal T-SQL, migrate data from legacy data structures into new ones, provide data to internal teams, build and maintain data products to external users and systems.
You will be expected to:

  • Support the Data Platform Architect, developers and clients on a project-by-project basis by creating or modifying database schemas, stored procedures and bespoke queries.

  • Support and complete internal and external reporting and data requests

  • Perform both one-time and ongoing data migrations between systems

  • Work with the wider database team in re-defining and applying database coding standards.

  • Source control database objects and deploy changes.

  • Optimize query performance.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate strong experience in developing and supporting complicated database schemas and business logic. You will have a good understanding of all facets of database development, design, performance and best practices. You should have extensive experience writing stored procedures and creating ad-hoc T-SQL queries for research and reporting, as well as using SSIS for data integration.

You'll also have:

  • 3+ years experience working with relational databases

  • 3+ years of T-SQL querying and programming skills, preferably using SQL Server 2014 or higher

  • 2+ years experience in Index design and optimization

  • 2+ years experience in database design

  • 1+ years experience migrating data using SSIS

  • Experience of SSAS and SSRS is essential

  • Excellent troubleshooting, identifying bottlenecks and problem solving skills

  • Ability to monitor performance and optimise complex stored procedures and queries

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong analytical approach and planning ability

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Proven ability to work in a team

Nice to haves:

  • Experience of MYSQL, AWS, No-SQL DBs and Azure

  • Experience of ORMs

  • C# and .Net programming
