MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER OIL & GAS INDUSTRY NEAR CARDIFF
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join this world leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision, innovative downhole electromechanical data acquisition instrumentation for the worldwide oil and gas industry. Their products are used to measure of flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters within the well bore.
Operating within the Engineering (Development) Team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will contribute significantly to the success of new product design and development by playing an active part in all elements of the product development cycle from the generation of concepts and design specifications through to prototype assembly, test and documented sign-off for production.
As Mechanical Design Engineer you will provide mechanical engineering expertise for the design, development and support, from cradle to grave, of high-precision, high-temperature electro-mechanical instrumentation for use in oil and gas well data acquisition.
Your principal responsibilities will include: innovative conceptual and practical mechanical design to internal/client specifications; practical design and proving of design concepts; compiling technical proposal & specification documentation; production of high quality engineering drawings (parts and assemblies); design of test schedules and plans for new products; assisting with the development of production documentation, including test schedules and programmes for production hand-over of new products; and compiling mechanical sections of product operations and maintenance manuals.
To succeed as Mechanical Design Engineer you should be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or closely-related discipline with demonstrable detailed conceptual through to finished prototype mechanical design experience and experience in the design of complex, low volume precision-engineered mechanical systems using CAD/3D solid modelling packages.
Knowledge and expertise of high pressure seals, pressure vessels, electromechanical systems, hydraulics and fluid dynamics is required, as is detailed knowledge and understanding of manufacturing techniques appropriate for precision engineered products and experience in Design for Manufacture & Design for Test techniques and approaches. You should be able to demonstrate an analytical approach to design, including stress calculations, above average report writing and communications skills, and good team-working skills, flexibility and self-motivation.
Ideally you will also have experience in Pro-Engineer CAD package and Finite Element Analysis for stress analysis and knowledge and experience of Product Data Management systems and general engineering configuration controls.
